Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson may think that they have it all. The teeny boppers of this generation probably don't realize of the television greats that reigned supreme before "Bella" and "Edward" came along.

Most people think that the current vampire craze started as a result of the Twilight series of books. Most often forget that humans have been infatuated with vampires for literally centuries. From Bram Stoker's Dracula to Anne Rice's Vampire Series, vampire novels have been made into movies over the years. More recently, Patricia Brigg's Mercedes Thompson Series and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Series have become well worth the read.

Twilight has sired other television series such as HBO's True Blood and CW's Vampire Diaries. This is not the CW's first encounter with a vampire show. Buffy the Vampire Slayer played on both the WB network and UPN, the two networks that merged to form the CW.

So, now on to the real matter. Why is Buffy the Vampire Slayer so much better than Twilight?

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer adheres to traditional vampire rules. The vamps in Buffy are destroyed by sunlight, holy water, and wooden stakes. They don't make reflections, which makes it easier for them to sneak up of Buffy and the rest of the Scoobies.

2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer still has a following. We can't say that Twilight won't still have a following in ten years, but Buffy's following is still strong. The Twilight books will most likely last longer than the movie craze.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer had the talent of Joss Whedon and some of the best actors in Hollywood. Sarah Michelle Gellar went on to star in many different movies. Alyson Hannigan starred in the American Pie series. David Boreanaz is the costar of the popular television show, Bones.

4. The hunky male vampires of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are way scarier than Edward Cullen. Even when in romantic relationships with Buffy, Angel and Spike are two scary vampires. They're extremely intimidating, while Edward Cullen comes off as creepy and weird.

5. Buffy is witty and cute. Bella is awkward and doesn't use one liners. One of a Buffy fan's favorite things about the show is the witty quips of the Slayer.

6. What Would Buffy Do? Jana Riess wrote a novel about the spiritual and moral aspects of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. The book discusses all the ways the vampire series teaches morals.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer will always reign supreme in the Vampire genre.

So true. I actually liked Twilight before Buffy, but a friend introduced me to Buffy and it's actually changed me. It's one of those shows which stay with you, teach important messages and have a wonderful array of characters you can relate to, not just typical, average Bella Swan and creepy Edward Cullen. And hey, I'd choose Spike over Edward anyday!

Buffy is awesome.

I'm introducing my twilight crazy friends to Buffy and they already agree that Buffy is much better.

I am 11 and I've watched all 7 seasons of Buffy, have the comic books, and have seen all 5 seasons of Angel, and I even make my own stakes. I know, obsessed. And i think those sparkly vamps are SISSIE BABY WIMPS!!!!!!!!

P.S. I know that the werewolves are hot, but they are WAY too emotional.

I know that i'm probably writing too much (i don't write online often) but Hannah, I also think Spike is the coolest vampire ever! (no offense to other vamps and their fans :) )

SPIKE. ALL THE WAY. There are no words to describe his bloodybleedingaweosmesauceness. And the Twilight series (especially the movie adaptations) are an upfront offense to the whole Vampyre genre; it's created a horrible relentless plague of disgustingly mainstream vampyre/goth-wannabes who attempt to tarnish the rep of not only the gothic culture and fabulous Vampyre genre, but also everything that the disgustingly mainstream vampyre/goth-wannabes metaphorically touch, including humanity its-freaking-self.

buffy was the best series i've ever watched, may be twilight fans like the movie because of the hot edward, but i agree that buffy is much better than twilight, it would bring u in to another world, i was so sad because it ended, loveee buffy and angel

Amy 19 months ago

heza abdullah, ARE YOU CRAZY!!!! Edward is not hot at all! He looks dirty and can't act! And Angel and Bufy, after killing your boyfriend/lover/vampire and sending hin to a hell dimension, things will tend to get kinda akward.

hezha abdullah 19 months ago

u r absolutely right amy i think he is just cute in the movie but in the reality he is dirty and his personality is not good at all, buffy will remain the best always buffy the best anime ever, i watched it when i was 13 and i still want to watch it again and now am 21 !

One thing i just realized is that you can't quote twilight without sounding like a suicidal love addict. I love being able to freely quote funny Buffy sayings and lines withmy friends.

I had watched "Angel" when it aired originally and was a big fan, Charisma Carpenter and all. :) I had always thought that "Buffy" was more for the teenie bopper genre and Angel was for the grown ups. Recently I have had the oppurtunity to catch Buffy on netflix and I must say that I like it better than Angel. I'm about midway through the final season and have caught myself staying up later than I need to to finish a couple extra episodes. I enjoy the following of the "rules" of being a Vampyre as much you, and I must say when it comes to the Twilight saga...I never thought I'd switch teams midstream and pull for the Lycan...Go team Jacob! Edward looks like he would break if he ever were to trip and fall. :) Glad I am not alone in my theories, good hub I voted you up and awesome, and now I will follow. Good luck to you...W

I started watching Buffy and Angel at the beginning of the year, and I've gone through 5 seasons of Buffy and 4 seasons of Angel. My goal is to finish it all by May.

This article caught my attention because I saw it under the title Vampires, but then it held my attention through out because of the language style..Way to go!

I've been saying this stuff for so Many years and I've made my own list of what makes buffy better and what doesn't make sense with twilight.

I like this article. I watched twilight and thought it was so stupid and maybe the books would be better, they were but not by much. All it is is a creepy guy falls for a awkward, kinda depressed girl. It seems like it just teaches girls that if you boyfriend stalks you, watches you in your sleep, and treats you like a little kid, that he must really love you and you are willing to through yourself off a cliff for him. Buffy teaches so much more! Like a few days ago i just so happened to catch a Buffy episode on teennick and it was 'Earshot', its a great example because at the end it tells how subside and murder are never the answer and never solve anything. That's what Buffy was all about, life lessons. Buffy had life lessons, witty and funny characters, and a great sifi/action story line. Twilight has depressed awkward love and half naked wearwolves.

kak, thanks for your comment. I own the book "What Would Buffy Do?" that talks about all the life lessons, philosophies, religions, and more that are included in Buffy.

I never liked twilight (sparkling vampires?) but fell in love with buffy. Now I love vampires (spike and angel) and am reading Dracula.

Also, with the werewolve in twilight, they are too emotional and childish. Plus, the fact that they cannot obey their leader/alpha/pack master just goes to show that they are not TRUE werewolves. And seriously, vegetarian vamps? SERIOUSLY?

Amy 6 months ago

And directly from the youtube song "sparkly vampires" would it be acceptable if werewolves glowed or if monsters were shiny? NO. Not only does it go against every single mythology ever, but it also is offensive to any true vampire fans.
